Anti-Gun Violence Groups Rally In Response to Bed-Stuy Mass Shooting
Leaders of anti-gun violence organizations lead marchers down Lewis Avenue in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
On Tuesday, more than a handful of anti-gun violence groups — some associated with the Cure Violence Global movement — met in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn to denounce a mass shooting that took place less than 48 hours earlier. The shooting, which happened outside of the Eleanor Roosevelt Houses in Bed-Stuy, injured eight people between the ages of 18 and 27 and did not cause any fatalities. According to the Gun Violence archive, a shoting incident qualifies as a mass shooting when four or more people are shot and/or killed at a single incident or event. The shooting took place at a outdoor party where reportedly up to 150 youth gathered outside of the housing development. When shootings occur in certain catchment areas , a rapid response is organized to denounce gun violence and let community members know that they are supported. This rally and march was led by Man Up! Inc., one of the borough’s premire anti-gun violence organizations.
